WHAT IS ACUPUNCTURE?
Acupuncture is a traditional medical practice that involves the insertion of fine, sterile needles at precise points on the body to stimulate the flow of Qi (vital energy). This technique promotes the body’s natural healing processes by enhancing recuperative power, boosting immunity, and improving both physical and emotional health. Acupuncture is recognized as a safe and effective treatment modality for a wide range of health concerns and it offers the patient a holistic approach without the need for surgery or pharmaceuticals.
WHAT WILL MY ACUPUNCTURIST DO?
During your initial session, Dr. Angela Myles conducts an exhaustive and detailed health history intake, ensuring every facet of your well-being is understood. She will inquire thoughtfully about your symptoms, overall health, and lifestyle to tailor a treatment that truly honors your unique constitution. With the practiced eye of a seasoned healer, she will examine your pulses and observe your tongue—ancient diagnostic tools that reveal subtle imbalances in your Qi energy. This meticulous process allows us to craft a bespoke acupuncture plan designed to restore harmony, vitality, and profound wellness in your body and spirit. Experience the art of healing refined for the discerning client who deserves nothing less than personalized luxury and care.
WHAT TECHNIQUES ARE USED?
In an acupuncture session at Bespoke Healing, a variety of precise techniques are employed to promote balance, healing, and rejuvenation tailored to each client's unique needs:
1. Traditional Needle Insertion
Fine, sterile, single-use needles are gently inserted into specific acupuncture points along the body's meridians. These points are chosen based on a thorough assessment to stimulate the body’s natural healing mechanisms.
2. Needle Manipulation
Once inserted, needles may be gently twirled, lifted, or tapped to enhance the therapeutic effect, encouraging improved energy flow (Qi) and circulation.
3. Electro-Acupuncture
For clients seeking potent stimulation, tiny electrical currents are applied to select needles, deepening the impact on muscles and tissues while promoting accelerated healing and pain relief.
4. Moxibustion
This traditional warming technique uses the gentle heat from burning moxa (dried mugwort) near or on acupuncture points to invigorate blood flow and warm the body’s energy channels.
5. Cupping Therapy
Often paired with acupuncture, cupping involves creating suction on the skin using glass or silicone cups to enhance circulation and relieve muscular tension.
6. Gua Sha
A unique scraping technique performed with a smooth-edged tool, Gua Sha encourages detoxification and stimulates microcirculation, leaving the skin vibrant and renewed.
7. Auricular Acupuncture
Targeting specific points on the ear, this method addresses systemic issues and complements the full-body approach, using tiny needles or seeds.
8. Lifestyle and Energy Assessment
Throughout the session, Dr. Angela Myles utilizes a holistic lens—considering your energy balance, lifestyle, and wellness goals—to adjust techniques in real time, ensuring a bespoke, 5-star healing experience.
Every element of your session is designed with precision, luxury, and an enchanting touch, providing not just treatment, but an immersive wellness journey.
DO THE FILAMENTS (NEEDLES) HURT?
Usually the answer to this is “no, they do not” I will add, however that the physical sensations which can be caused by an acupuncture filament (needle) varies person to person. Feedback from some people have included feeling a slight pinch or mild discomfort as the needles are inserted, but the majority experience little to no pain at all. Our needles are exceptionally fine—just a fraction thicker than a human hair or a cat's whisker—designed for precision and minimal sensation. This delicate approach ensures a virtually painless experience, inviting relaxation and healing from the very first touch.HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?
HOW MANY SESSIONS DO I NEED?
What is most important is that we first assess what is happening so a treatment plan can be outlined. The timeline of sessions discussed will always be tailored based on the patient’s resources (needs and availability, etc.) I always tell my patients that while I love seeing them, my goal is to treat as effectively in as little treatments as possible. The number of treatments always varies from person to person and also with the same person depending on the condition looking for relief. I have had some patients experience immediate relief, it’s not entirely common, but it does happen. There are others who may take longer to achieve results. Chronic conditions will generally tend to take longer to resolve than acute issues. The frequency of treatment depends on a multiple factors: constitution, severity, chronic or acute condition and the quality and quantity of your Qi.
An acupuncturist may suggest one or two treatments per week, monthy visits for health maintenance or seasonal "tune ups".
HOW SHOULD I PREPARE?
Wear loose, comforable clothing for easy access to acupuncture points.
Don't eat large meals just before or after your visit, but do not come on an empty stomach.
Between visits, take notes of any changes that may have occurred, such as the alleviation of pain, pain moving to other areas, or changes in the frequency and type of problems.
·Avoid stressfull situations. Make time to relax and get plenty of rest.
WHAT CONDITIONS CAN ACUPUNCTURE TREAT?
Acupuncture approaches the body through a holistic diagnostic framework that is uniquely its own, examining the flow of Qi, balance of Yin and Yang, and organ system interconnections. Despite these traditional diagnostic concepts, many acupuncture assessments correspond with conditions well-recognized in Western medicine. For example, patterns of Qi stagnation or blood deficiency often manifest in symptoms like chronic pain, fatigue, or digestive disturbances, which Western medicine may classify as fibromyalgia, anemia, or irritable bowel syndrome. Similarly, disruptions in the meridian system paralleling nervous or musculoskeletal pathways can correspond with neuropathies or tension-related disorders. By addressing these imbalances through targeted point stimulation, acupuncture harmonizes the body's intrinsic healing capacity, offering relief that aligns with and complements familiar Western diagnoses while honoring the body's complex energetic blueprint. Below is a breakdown of some western diagnostic labels acupuncture has been known to help.
